Curriculum

Design and Technology

Vision

Our vision is to inspire pupils through providing opportunities for children to use their creativity and imagination. As they progress through a series of predominantly practical lessons, children will be expected to solve real, relevant problems and consider the wants and needs of their consumers. Children will be equipped with the technical skills required to design and make functional products. They will explore past and present design and technology developments and the impact they have had upon daily life.

Our aims are for children to

  • Develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
  • Build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
  • Critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
  • Understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook

STEM Projects

Within our Design and Technology curriculum are our yearly STEM projects. Here we explicitly demonstrate how scientific knowledge can be applied in real life engineering situations to provide solutions to problems. Children will be able to use their knowledge, gained through scientific research and investigations in science lessons, to their own design and technology projects in a practical environment. This will prepare children for a STEM focussed future, inspire and engage children in STEM subjects and inspire the future scientist and engineers.
